Galena Summit

Galena Summit (altitude 8,701 feet [2,652 meters]), a peak in the Sawtooth Mountains, is located 29 miles (47 km) north of Ketchum, Idaho. It marks the divide between the Wood River and Salmon River drainage areas.
The area around Galena Summit is host to many ski resorts because the local climate is extremely conducive to this activity: The high altitude allows temperatures to be cold enough to support a constant snow cover for up to six months each year, and the region receives generous amounts of snow because most of its precipitation is received during the winter months.
The ski resorts bring many tourists to the area each winter (Presidential candidate John Kerry visited in March, 2004), and noted television actor Adam West grew up in nearby Ketchum.
