French Creek is a town located in Chautauqua County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 935. The town is named after the stream flowing through it.
The Town of French Creek, which was incorporated in 1829, lies in the southwest corner of the County.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 93.8 km² (36.2 mi²). 93.8 km² (36.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 935 people, 332 households, and 260 families residing in the town. The population density is 10.0/km² (25.8/mi²). There are 592 housing units at an average density of 6.3/km² (16.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.93% White, 0.00% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 332 households out of which 40.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.0% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% are non-families. 19.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.21.
In the town the population is spread out with 31.1% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
