Freehold Township is a township located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 31,537. The Battle of Monmouth was fought in Monmouth Battlefield State Park, which is in Freehold Township and Manalapan.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 99.8 km² (38.5 mi²). 99.6 km² (38.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.21% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 31,537 people, 10,814 households, and 8,283 families residing in the township. The population density is 316.7/km² (820.2/mi²). There are 11,032 housing units at an average density of 110.8/km² (286.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 87.09% White, 5.12% African American, 0.14% Native American, 5.15% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.19% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 5.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,814 households out of which 37.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.4% are non-families. 20.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.21.
In the township the population is spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.3 males.
