Frankston (station code: FKN) is a railway station located on Young Street in Frankston, Victoria, Australia. It is the termination of the Frankston railway line, however locomotive hauled services extend to the greater metropolitan area on the Stony Point line beyond. It is a Zone 3 railway station with two platforms. As of October 2002, Frankston was one of 13 metropolitan stations to have Metcard barrier gates installed.
Frankston has been found to be the highest suburb on the Victoria Police list for criminal offences per postcode, and Frankston station is a renowned hive of criminal activity, particularly at night. Recent innovative local council attempts to curtail criminal activity at Frankston station include brighter lighting at night, and the constant broadcasting of classical music over a public announcement system, intended to discourage young people from being inclined to loiter at the station after hours.
A recent study shows that the Frankston railway line has been found to have one of the highest crime rates on the metropolitan rail network. In the three years to December, 3,578 offences were reported on the Frankston line, second only to Pakenham's 5,262 offences. Offences included theft, property damage, assaults, drugs and sexual assaults.
