The Frank C. Erwin Jr. Special Events Center (nicknamed "the Superdrum") is an arena on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, generally accepted to be Austin's premier venue for public and private events with seating for up to 16,737. The center cost $34 million to build in 1977. UT began a three phase renovation of the center in 2001 and finished in 2003. Originally known just as the Special Events Center, it was renamed for Frank Erwin, a UT System regent from 1963 to 1975, after his death in 1980.
The facility is primarily the home court for the UT men's and women's basketball programs, and is also home to the Austin Wranglers of the Arena Football League. The center has also held many memorable and diverse events ranging from George Strait to WWE and private banquets.
