Fort Johnson is a village located in Montgomery County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 491.
The Village of Fort Johnson is in the Town of Amsterdam on Route 5.
Geography
The village is on the north bank of the Mohawk River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.90% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 491 people, 198 households, and 139 families residing in the village. The population density is 256.2/km² (659.8/mi²). There are 220 housing units at an average density of 114.8/km² (295.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.17% White, 0.61% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. 2.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 198 households out of which 30.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% are non-families. 24.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
