Geography
Folsom is located at 36°50'53" North, 103°55'5" West (36.848152, -103.918176)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
History
Folsom is the type site for the Folsom Tradition, a Paleo-Indian cultural sequence dating to between 9000 BC and 8000 BC. The Folsom site was excavated in 1926 and found to have been a marsh-side kill site or camp where 23 bison had been killed using distinctive tools, known as Folsom points.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 75 people, 31 households, and 19 families residing in the village. The population density is 53.6/km² (139.1/mi²). There are 44 housing units at an average density of 31.5/km² (81.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 73.33% White, 0.00% African American, 2.67% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 21.33% from other races, and 2.67% from two or more races. 34.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 31 households out of which 35.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.4% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.5% are non-families. 35.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.15.
In the village the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 14.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.8 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $17,083, and the median income for a family is $25,750. Males have a median income of $23,750 versus $16,000 for females.
