Folsom, California

Folsom is a city located in Sacramento County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 51,884.
The Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park preserves a powerplant built in 1896 that harnessed the waters of the American River to provide electricity to Sacramento. It is a National Historic Landmark.
Folsom State Prison is the second-oldest in California.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 62.6 km² (24.2 mi²). 56.3 km² (21.7 mi²) of it is land and 6.3 km² (2.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.09% water, primarily accounted for by Folsom Lake.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 51,884 people, 17,196 households, and 12,518 families residing in the city. The population density is 921.5/km² (2,386.7/mi²). There are 17,968 housing units at an average density of 319.1/km² (826.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 77.89% White, 5.99% African American, 0.58% Native American, 7.19% Asian, 0.19% Pacific Islander, 4.71% from other races, and 3.43% from two or more races. 9.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 17,196 households out of which 39.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% are non-families. 21.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.08.
In the city the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 39.0% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 123.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 131.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $73,175, and the median income for a family is $82,448. Males have a median income of $60,616 versus $42,434 for females. The per capita income for the city is $30,210. 7.3% of the population and 2.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.1% of those under the age of 18 and 4.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
