Flamingo Road was a prime time soap opera that aired on NBC in the early 1980s for two seasons. The series was based on the book by Robert Wilder and the movie starring Joan Crawford. It made a star out of series regular Morgan Fairchild, who portrayed the cunning political wife Constance Weldon Carlysle. The series also featured stories concerning the "regular folks" of wealthy Truro County Florida.
The series was never a standout in the ratings and as ratings for the series steadily declined NBC elected to cancel it. The series finale centred around the murder of a rich businessman who was loathed by everyone in the community of Truro. Many people believed the storyline to be a blatant rip-off of the famous "Who Shot JR?" storyline that had gripped America on Dallas. However, Flamingo Road decided to take the unconventional route and while the murder of the much loathed businessman was typical, his emergence from a burning barn thanks to a Voodoo curse was not.
