FedEx Field is located at Raljon in
Landover, Maryland, off of the DC Beltway (I-495) in
Prince George's County near the site of the old Capital Center (USAir Arena). It is the home of the
Washington Redskins American football team. The stadium opened in 1997 as
Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, in honor of the former owner of the team. After the team and stadium were purchased by
Daniel Snyder, the naming rights were sold to the
FedEx corporation in
November of
1999 for an average of $7.6 million per year. FedEx Field replaced
Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in
Washington, DC proper as the home of the Redskins. FedEx Field has not had a football season in which the stadium failed to sell out its tickets. It currently is the
National Football League's largest stadium, with a capacity of 91,665. It has hosted numerous concerts and occasional Armed Forces football games as well.
Critics are not fond of Snyder charging $20 a car for parking at the stadium.
