Farmington is a town located in Ontario County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 10,585.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 102.2 km² (39.5 mi²). 102.2 km² (39.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,585 people, 3,870 households, and 2,894 families residing in the town. The population density is 103.6/km² (268.3/mi²). There are 4,046 housing units at an average density of 39.6/km² (102.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.53% White, 1.02% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.94% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,870 households out of which 40.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% are non-families. 18.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.14.
In the town the population is spread out with 28.7% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 6.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.4 males.
