Farmingdale is a census-designated place located in Kennebec County, Maine.

Geography

Farmingdale is located at 44°15'15" North, 69°46'41" West (44.254253, -69.778199)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²). 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.95% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,935 people, 864 households, and 529 families residing in the area. The population density is 319.3/km² (826.8/mi²). There are 914 housing units at an average density of 150.8/km² (390.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 97.00% White, 0.93% Black or African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 0.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 864 households out of which 29.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% are married couples living together, 14.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.7% are non-families. 33.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.78.

In the community the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 83.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.3 males.

The median income for a household in the area is $35,240, and the median income for a family is $39,750. Males have a median income of $36,548 versus $24,973 for females. The per capita income for the area is $18,948. 11.6% of the population and 11.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.3% of those under the age of 18 and 3.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
