Family Coalition Party of Ontario
|
The Family Coalition Party is a minor political party in Ontario, Canada that was founded in 1987 with a social conservative platform. It grew out of Campaign Life, an anti-abortion organization.
The first leader of the party was Donald Pennell, who ran for the Ontario Liberal Party in the provincial election of 1975. He served as FCP leader from 1987 to 1997 when he was replaced by Giuseppe Gori, the current leader.
In the 1990 Ontario election, the FCP received over 100,000 votes, but failed to win any seats in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Support for the party has declined since then.
The party is strongly opposed to abortion, homosexuality, and same sex marriage.
