Fairlea is a census-designated place located in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,706.
Geography
Fairlea is located at 37°46'48" North, 80°27'31" West (37.779967, -80.458538)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.6 km² (3.7 mi²). 9.6 km² (3.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,706 people, 770 households, and 428 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 178.5/km² (461.8/mi²). There are 861 housing units at an average density of 90.1/km² (233.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.66% White, 1.17% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 1.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 770 households out of which 24.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.4% are non-families. 39.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.08 and the average family size is 2.78.
