Fairlawn is an affluent city located in Summit County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,307.

Fairlawn is located at 41°7'46" North, 81°37'5" West (41.129555, -81.618103)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.5 km² (4.4 mi²). 11.5 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.23% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 7,307 people, 2,986 households, and 1,976 families residing in the city. The population density is 636.9/km² (1,649.7/mi²). There are 3,141 housing units at an average density of 273.8/km² (709.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 88.81% White, 6.12% African American, 0.07% Native American, 3.30% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,986 households out of which 27.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.8% are non-families. 29.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.85.
In the city the population is spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 83.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $62,180, and the median income for a family is $78,947. Males have a median income of $56,303 versus $35,136 for females. The per capita income for the city is $34,927. 1.5% of the population and 0.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.2% of those under the age of 18 and 1.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
History
Fairlawn was incorporated as Fairlawn Village in 1958. It became a city when its population reached 6,200 in the 1970 census. (Fairlawn, 2003)
Transportation & Shopping

Fairlawn is served by West Market Street, part of Ohio Route 18. Market Street is a wide road with up to seven lanes. Fairlawn has a busy shopping district along the Route 18 corridor, to the extent where most areas have reached saturation. The area is anchored by Summit Mall, Wal-Mart, CompUSA, Sears Hardware, and hundreds of other smaller businesses.
