Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 8,443 people, 2,952 households, and 1,791 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,671.7/km² (4,325.4/mi²). There are 3,136 housing units at an average density of 620.9/km² (1,606.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 50.76% White, 23.83% African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.98% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 20.43% from other races, and 3.26% from two or more races. 36.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,952 households out of which 33.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.7% are married couples living together, 15.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% are non-families. 28.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.32.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 15.6% from 18 to 24, 37.6% from 25 to 44, 14.6% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 123.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 128.5 males.
