Everton is a district of Liverpool, Merseyside. The football club Everton F.C. is named for the area, after the location of their first ground, St. Domingo's Church. The district is also the location of the team's crest image, an old bridewell known as Prince Rupert's Tower.
The origin of the name can been attributed to the Anglo-Saxon for "pig-farm" or "pig hill", the second being more likely, due to the area's location - a hill overlooking the city centre. A mention in the Domesday Book calls it "Oferton", which means the village over and above the town.
