The television series Empty Nest is a spin-off from The Golden Girls and ran on NBC for seven seasons from 1988 to 1995. The series was distributed by Touchstone Television.
The show starred Richard Mulligan as pediatrician Harry Weston. Harry had three daughters, Carol (played by Dinah Manoff), Barbara (played by Kristy McNichol), and Emily (played by Lisa Rieffel), although Emily was rarely seen on the show. Carol and Barbara (and later Emily) had moved back home after the death of their mother, Lily.
David Leisure, who had become famous in ads for Isuzu brand automobiles, played annoying neighbor Charlie Dietz. Park Overall played nurse LaVerne Todd, who worked for Harry at the hospital. Later in the series, Harry and LaVerne left the hospital to work at a clinic run by Maxine (Marsha Warfield).
The cast of The Golden Girls, who are said to be neighbors, made occasional appearances on the show when the two ran together. Dorothy and Blanche each only appeared 1 time, while Rose totals in at 3. Sophia (Estelle Getty) appeared a couple of times, however, in the series sixth season, after the cancellation of The Golden Palace on CBS, Estelle comes back to NBC and stars on Empty Nest for it's final two years.
Empty Nest spawned an NBC spin-off of its own, lasting three years only, titled Nurses.
