Emporium is a borough located in Cameron County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 2,526. It is the county seat of Cameron CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
Emporium is located at 41°30'41" North, 78°14'11" West (41.511288, -78.236418)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,526 people, 1,089 households, and 626 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,336.0/km² (3,460.2/mi²). There are 1,215 housing units at an average density of 642.6/km² (1,664.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.38% White, 0.71% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,089 households out of which 26.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.1% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.5% are non-families. 38.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.99.
