Emperor Ling of Han China, trad. ch. 漢靈帝;, sim. ch. 漢灵帝, py. hàn líng dì, wg. Han Ling-ti, (156-189) was an emperor of the Chinese Han Dynasty. He was a great-great-grandson of Emperor Zhang. The Yellow Turban Rebellion broke out during his reign.
Emperor Ling's reign saw yet another repetition of government domination by corrupt eunuchs. This time Zhang Rang and his accomplices succeeded in declaring Ling emperor in 168 AD. Ling was not interested in governmental affairs instead indulged himself in women and a prodigal lifestyle. At the same time corrupt officials levied heavy taxes on the peasants causing public outcries and rebellions.
The Yellow Turban Rebellion that broke out during this period would be suppressed by the Han government but this would cost the dynasty dearly and from hereon, the Han dynasty have all but lost its mandate of heaven to rule.
Emperor Ling died after reigning for 21 years in 189 AD. He was 34.
