Emile (1762) by Jean-Jacques Rousseau is a treatise on education. Rousseau argues that children are perfectly designed organisms, ready to learn from their surroundings and to grow into virtuous adults. But, due to the influence of corrupt society, they often fail to do so. See Emile, or Education.

Emile is a Canadian film made in 2003 by Carl Bessai but not released widely until 2004. The cast included Ian McKellen & Deborah Kara Unger. The film recived 2 Genie Award nominations (the Canadian equivilant of an Oscar) for Best Achievement in Overall Sound and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Ian McKellen in 2005.
