Elsinboro Township is a township located in Salem County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,092.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.5 km² (13.3 mi²). 31.8 km² (12.3 mi²) of it is land and 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.95% water.
Elsinboro Township borders Pennsville Township, Salem, and Lower Alloways Creek Township. Elsinboro also borders the Delaware Bay.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,092 people, 468 households, and 324 families residing in the township. The population density is 34.4/km² (89.0/mi²). There are 530 housing units at an average density of 16.7/km² (43.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 95.05% White, 3.57% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 0.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 468 households out of which 24.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.7% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 26.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.80.
In the township the population is spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
