Elmore City is a town located in Garvin County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 756.

The plot of the 1984 movie, Footloose, is loosely based on events in Elmore City.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 756 people, 328 households, and 205 families residing in the town. The population density is 648.7/km² (1,671.9/mi²). There are 370 housing units at an average density of 317.5/km² (818.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 91.40% White, 0.00% African American, 4.50% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 3.57% from two or more races. 1.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 328 households out of which 29.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% are married couples living together, 9.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.5% are non-families. 34.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.97.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $23,810, and the median income for a family is $25,000. Males have a median income of $22,083 versus $17,159 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,486. 14.7% of the population and 13.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20.4% of those under the age of 18 and 15.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
