According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²). 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.57% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 13,161 people, 5,701 households, and 3,563 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,447.7/km² (3,749.2/mi²). There are 6,482 housing units at an average density of 713.0/km² (1,846.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.19% White, 0.96% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.91% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.93% from other races, and 1.60% from two or more races. 4.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,701 households out of which 23.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.6% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.5% are non-families. 31.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.77.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 30.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 82.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.4 males.
