East Longmeadow is a town located in Hampden County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 14,100.
History
East Longmeadow was first settled in 1740 and was officially incorporated in 1894.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 33.7 km² (13.0 mi²). 33.6 km² (13.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.31% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 14,100 people, 5,248 households, and 3,988 families residing in the town. The population density is 419.7/km² (1,087.1/mi²). There are 5,363 housing units at an average density of 159.7/km² (413.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.52% White, 0.74% African American, 0.04% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 0.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,248 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% are non-families. 21.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.10.
