East Hampton is a census-designated place located in Middlesex County, Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,254.

Geography

East Hampton, Connecticut is actually located to the southwest of Hampton, Connecticut.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²). 6.6 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.78% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,254 people, 821 households, and 596 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 341.3/km² (883.0/mi²). There are 858 housing units at an average density of 129.9/km² (336.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.96% White, 0.80% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. 0.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 821 households out of which 37.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% are non-families. 20.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.15.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $53,464, and the median income for a family is $64,150. Males have a median income of $50,727 versus $31,181 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $25,207. 4.1% of the population and 1.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.7% of those under the age of 18 and 2.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
