East Dunbar is a census-designated place located in Lee County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,935.

Geography

East Dunbar is located at 26°38'0" North, 81°50'36" West (26.633400, -81.843207)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.23% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,935 people, 627 households, and 432 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 933.9/km² (2,427.3/mi²). There are 710 housing units at an average density of 342.7/km² (890.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 3.67% White, 91.99% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.38% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. 4.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 627 households out of which 30.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 31.9% are married couples living together, 30.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.61.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $22,941, and the median income for a family is $25,809. Males have a median income of $24,688 versus $23,859 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $9,567. 37.3% of the population and 30.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 44.5% of those under the age of 18 and 46.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
