The title of Earl of Cromartie has been created twice
The title was first created in the Peerage of Scotland in 1703 for Sir George Mackenzie of Tarbat, Viscount of Tarbat, Lord Macleod and Castlehaven. The title was forfeited in 1746 for treason.
The title was created for the second time in 1861 for the Duchess of Sutherland, with a remainder to her second son.
The Earl bears the subsidiary titles of Viscount Tarbat (1861), Baron Macleod of Castle Leod (1861) and Baron Castlehaven (1861), all in the Peerage of the UK.
