E (New York City Subway service)

Template:NYCS logo The E Eighth Avenue Local is a service of the New York City Subway. It is colored blue since it uses the IND Eighth Avenue Line through midtown Manhattan. Its normal service pattern is from Jamaica Center-Parsons Boulevard to World Trade Center, running express through Queens and local through Manhattan; some rush hour trips run to Jamaica-179th Street to supplement the Template:NYCS F. Service on the E was affected by the September 11, 2001 attacks because its terminal is at the northeastern corner of the WTC site. Service for the line was changed so that it went to Euclid Avenue in Brooklyn as the Fulton Street Local — the third time it had gone to the borough. This has happened in 1976, and agaiin in early 2000 during the replacement of track switches at the aforementioned station. Service was restored after the World Trade Center terminus was reopened a few months after the attacks.

The E train used to follow the F train to 179 St-Hillside Avenue in Queens at all times, but in 1988, the new Archer Avenue Subway opened and two tracks known as the "Van Wyck Stub" (so called because they are under Van Wyck Boulevard — now the Van Wyck Expressway), which were constantly in subway extension plans dating back to 1929, were connected to the upper level of this two level, four track subway. The lower level is used for J/Z service. As of 2004, several rush hour E trains operate to 179th Street.
