Duo Interpretation

Duo Interpretation (often shortened to "Duo Interp" or just "Duo") is an event in National Forensic League (and NFL-related) high school forensics compeitions.
In a typical round of Duo Interp, five to seven pairs of two performers will each perform a "cutting" (excerpt) from a published play, novel, or short story. Cuttings can vary from light comedy to heavy drama. After all of the competitors have performed, the judge (or judges) in the round will rank them from best to worst, and assign each of them a score.
Unlike Duet Acting, competitors in Duo Interp act under major constraints. Duo performers are not permitted to move from their standing position (facing slightly away from each other), to touch each other, or even to look at each other in the course of competition. Acting under these circumstances requires superb timing -- if one actor strikes another, the actor receiving the blow must buckle at the precise moment that the other actor delivers it.
