Dublin, Texas

Dublin is a city located in Erath County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,754.

The town is the home of the world's oldest Dr Pepper bottling plant. The plant, still in operation, is the only US source for Dr Pepper made with real cane sugar (from Texas-based Imperial Sugar), instead of less expensive corn syrup. Contractual requirements limit the plant's distribution range to a 40-mile radius of Dublin, an area encompassing Stephenville, Tolar, Comanche and Hico.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²). 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,754 people, 1,309 households, and 920 families residing in the city. The population density is 425.1/km² (1,102.4/mi²). There are 1,507 housing units at an average density of 170.6/km² (442.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 80.42% White, 0.24% African American, 0.91% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 16.25% from other races, and 2.05% from two or more races. 29.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,309 households out of which 39.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% are non-families. 26.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.38.

In the city the population is spread out with 32.4% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $24,397, and the median income for a family is $27,880. Males have a median income of $27,798 versus $16,786 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,724. 31.5% of the population and 28.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 41.1% of those under the age of 18 and 10.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
