In Scrabble, a double word score, or DWS, is a premium scoring space. This means that a word set on the board covers a "Double Word Score" space scores twice as much as it normally would. In the pictorial example to the right, the word lofty covers a "Double Word Score" space, scoring 30 points:
- L scores 2 points.
- O scores 2 points.
- F scores 8 points.
- T scores 2 points.
- Y scores 16 points.
On the board, a "Double Word Score" space is designated by a light pink color.
