Dororo (どろろ) is written by a famous Japanese cartoonist Osamu Tezuka in the 1960's.
During that time, manga with hobgoblins was popular among kids. This manga was serialized in "Shukan Shonen Sunday" for three years.
The story takes place in Japan during the Sengoku period, or the Warring States period. Samurai Kagemitsu Daigo promises forty-eight devils that he would give them forty-eight parts of the body from his still unborn child, if he becomes lords of the country. The boy who was born later, was put in a tub and washed down a river by his parents but physician Jukai saves him and finds out that the boy didn't have forty-eight parts of his body.
Jukai made the child false feet and hands and the other left off parts, so that he would look like an ordinary human boy. But still, the boy is not able to see, hear, speak, nor write. However, he was able to communicate with Jukai by using his supernatural power. Instead of using his fake body parts, he was able to live relying on his special power.
The child was named Hyakkimaru, meaning "hundred ogres child", because hobgoblins gathered around him attracted bu his supernatural power. Hyakkimaru leaves Jukai's house and goes on a journey in order to find a world where he could live in.
One night when Hyakkimaru was sleeping alone in an wrecked home, he heres a sound coming from somewhere and finds out that by killing the hobgoblins, his stolen body parts will return back to him. When he killed one of the hobgoblins called "Kanekozo", his right hands grew out from his body. With his partner "Dororo", a thief Hyakkimaru met during the travel, he continues his journey till he finds every one of the goblin and returns his forty-eight body parts.
