Doomworld
|
Doomworld is the oldest unofficial news website dedicated to the computer game Doom, having been founded in 1998. In addition to news, it provides informational resources about Doom and related games, hosting of Doom-related websites, and a community forum with over 5,000 registered users and 500,000 posts as of 2005.
The site received some mention in mainstream media in 1999, due to the controversy surrounding the Columbine High School massacre and shooters Eric Harris's and Dylan Klebold's obsession with Doom. It gained some renown the same year for acquiring John Carmack's permission to redistribute the Doom engine under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
