The Dick Howser Trophy is presented annually to the national College baseball player of the year, presented by the National College Baseball Writers Association. The award is named after Dick Howser, a Major League player and manager, who died of cancer in 1987.
The award was created in 1987 and the winners from 1987 to 1998 were selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association. In 1999 the NCBWA became the voting body and now presents the award together with the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Area Chamber of Commerce.
