The Deutsche Bundesbank is the central bank of Germany and a part of the European System of Central Banks. It was in charge of the German Mark until the Euro came into existence.
The Bundesbank in Frankfurt, or "Buba" for short, was one of the most respected of all central banks for its control of Inflation through the later half of the 20th Century. It was the first central banks to be given independence, with full instrument and goal independence, a form of central bank often referred to as the Bundesbank model when opposed to the New Zealand model where the goal (ie Inflation target) is set by the Government (this is the case at the Bank of England). The bundesbanks success as well as its geographical and political location in Europe led the European Central Bank to be built up in its image.
