Deposit is a village located in New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,699. On the county line, the village is partly within Broome County and Delaware County.
The Village of Deposit is partly within the Town of Sanford (Broome County) and the Town of Deposit (Delaware County).

History
The position of the village is at the boundary of White and Indian territory as imposed by the 1763 Fort Stanwix Treaty. The Village of Deposit was incorporated in 1851. The village was incorporated in 1811 in Delaware County. Formerly a lumber center, the dairy industry is now important.
Geography
The village is located by the West Branch of the Delaware River and the Southern Tier Expressway (New York Route 17). The village is 30 miles east of Binghamton, New York and three miles from the Pennsylvania border.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²). 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.55% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,699 people, 716 households, and 436 families residing in the village. The population density is 520.6/km² (1,350.9/mi²). There are 823 housing units at an average density of 252.2/km² (654.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.53% White, 0.94% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.82% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.94% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. 2.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 716 households out of which 31.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.7% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.0% are non-families. 34.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 3.03.
In the village the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.9 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $24,702, and the median income for a family is $32,016. Males have a median income of $27,202 versus $19,333 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,390. 17.6% of the population and 15.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 25.8% of those under the age of 18 and 12.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
