Crystal River is a city located in Citrus County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,485 (4,044 in 1990). The city was incorporated in 1903 and is the self professed "Home of the Manatee".

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.2 km² (6.3 mi²). 14.8 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.09% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,485 people, 1,498 households, and 927 families residing in the city. The population density is 236.1/km² (611.8/mi²). There are 1,956 housing units at an average density of 132.5/km² (343.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 83.76% White, 12.88% Black or African American, 0.40% Native American, 1.32% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 3.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,498 households out of which 21.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.1% are non-families. 32.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.68.
In the city the population is spread out with 19.0% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 20.9% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 27.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $37,207, and the median income for a family is $47,250. Males have a median income of $39,357 versus $25,417 for females. The per capita income for the city is $25,866. 9.9% of the population and 3.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.4% of those under the age of 18 and 9.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
