According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²). 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is land and 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 28.12% water.

There are 3,850 housing units at an average density of 468.9/km² (1,215.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.66% White, 0.88% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 6.08% Asian, 0.19% Pacific Islander, 1.30% from other races, and 3.58% from two or more races. 4.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,776 households out of which 32.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% are non-families. 24.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
