Internet service
Niue has commercial Internet service through a government agency, Telecom Niue. Non-commercial and government Internet service is free (see below).
.nu Internet domain
Niue, through an outside company, registers Internet domain names, so most .nu Web addresses are not actually located in Niue. Further details are provided in the external links.
From June 23 until October 13, 2003, Niue was the first country in the world to offer free nation-wide WiFi Internet access, using the funds provided by the domain registrations. It became unavailable amid reports of regulatory difficulties.
Postal and telecommunications services
Postal services are through the Niue Post Office. Telephone service is provided by Telecom Niue, the sole provider, which services 1,100 landlines and fixed wireless lines. It also operates a cellular telephone service on the AMPS platform.
