"Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners and The Emerald Express was the biggest selling British single of 1982. Written by Kevin Rowland, Big Jim Paterson and Billy Adams (and produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley), the song repeated its British chart success around the globe, reaching Number One in the United States the following April. It originally appeared on the album Too-Rye-Ay. Its bridge features a notable improvised counter-melody over an accelerando vocal backing.
The song has since been covered by artists including Save Ferris, Skyclad and Badly Drawn Boy.
