Colchester United F.C. are an English football team currently playing in Football League One. The club was formed in 1937, following the demise of Colchester Town. First admitted to the league in 1950, they play at Layer Road in Colchester. Colchester have remained a lower division club throughout their league history; their highest ever finish is fifth in the old Third Division. They are currently managed by Phil Parkinson.
The team's most notable victory came in 1971, when they beat Don Revie's Leeds United 3-2 in an FA Cup 5th round tie.
Colchester United's most famous supporter is Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq.
