Coinarama
|
Coinarama is a modern-day version of many coin-based games of physical skill which have been seen throughout history, such as shove ha'penny. It is particularly popular in the East of England, and is famed for its quirky jargon and overly complicated rules for a game which essentially involves flicking another person's coin (or "coy'en") off a table.
The world's governing body for the game is the Federation Mondiale De Coinarama (FMDC). Based in the East of England, the FMDC regulates the day to day running of the game, and is only superseded as the sport's highest legislative body by the highly secretive Founding Council.
The current FMDC world champion is Robert "Hog" Little, who weighs over 15 stone (95 kg). He took this title away from Alex "Fat" Malcom in the closely disputed May 2004 battle. An inquest is ongoing into the result, as members of the "Fat camp" have lodged an appeal after an initial inquest concluded that the claim of unfair refereeing practices had no basis in fact. An outcome is expected in early 2005.
