Cockfosters tube station
|
Cockfosters tube station is a London Underground station in Travelcard Zone 5 on the Piccadilly line, and is the northern terminus of that line. It is approximately 9 miles from central London, yet it can take upwards of an hour to reach the centre by tube - although 40 minutes on a good day. Cockfosters is literally the end of the line, since there are no tube tracks beyond here.
Cockfosters was designed by Charles Holden and opened 31 July 1933. It is located on Cockfosters Road (EN4) in Barnet, at the Northern end of the Cockfosters parade of shops. Nearby lies Trent Park, Southgate School, and Junction 24 of the M25
Most northbound Piccadilly trains terminate here although some terminate at Oakwood or Arnos Grove, particularly in peak hours or in the evenings.
The "London LOOP" walk uses one of the station's foot tunnels to cross Cockfosters Road.
