Clarkston is a city located in Asotin County, Washington, at the confluence of the Snake River and the Clearwater River, immediately across the Snake River from Lewiston, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,337.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.93% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 7,337 people, 3,120 households, and 1,790 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,467.8/km² (3,805.4/mi²). There are 3,414 housing units at an average density of 683.0/km² (1,770.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.43% White, 0.34% African American, 1.61% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.79% from other races, and 2.15% from two or more races. 2.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,120 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.1% are married couples living together, 15.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% are non-families. 35.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.92.
In the city the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 86.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $25,907, and the median income for a family is $32,093. Males have a median income of $31,434 versus $20,654 for females.
