Chippewa Falls is a city located on the Chippewa River in Chippewa County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,925. It is the county seat of Chippewa CountyTemplate:GR.
Chippewa Falls is also known for being the birthplace of Seymour Cray and the location of the headquarters for the original Cray Research. Chippewa Falls is the home of Leinenkugel's Beer, brewed by the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company.
Geography
Chippewa Falls is located at 44°56'3" North, 91°23'36" West (44.934110, -91.393228)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.5 km² (11.4 mi²). 28.1 km² (10.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.66% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 12,925 people, 5,638 households, and 3,247 families residing in the city. The population density is 459.9/km² (1,191.2/mi²). There are 5,905 housing units at an average density of 210.1/km² (544.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.62% White, 0.30% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 0.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,638 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.4% are married couples living together, 11.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.4% are non-families. 36.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.89.
In the city the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who are 65 years of age or older.
