Cherry Valley is a town located in Otsego County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,266.
Within the Town of Cherry Valley is a village, also called Cherry Valley. The town is in the northeast corner of the county.

History
The modern history of Cherry Valley begins with John Lindesay receiving the land in a grant from George II of England; he moved there in 1739, and seven Anglo-Scotch families from New Hampshire moved into the area the following year. During the Revolutionary War, Joseph Brant, a Mohawk Native American, led the Cherry Valley Massacre, during which 47 people were killed by tomahawk.
Geography
The north town line is the border of Montgomery County and Herkimer County. The eastern town line is the border of Schoharie County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 103.8 km² (40.1 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,266 people, 482 households, and 350 families residing in the town. The population density is 12.2/km² (31.6/mi²). There are 629 housing units at an average density of 6.1/km² (15.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.82% White, 0.08% Black or African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 0.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 482 households out of which 31.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% are married couples living together, 10.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% are non-families. 23.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.10.
In the town the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $39,107, and the median income for a family is $44,559. Males have a median income of $28,810 versus $22,417 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,792. 11.3% of the population and 7.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.8% of those under the age of 18 and 7.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
