Chatham Township is a township located in Morris County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 10,086.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 24.2 km² (9.4 mi²). 24.2 km² (9.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.21% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,086 people, 3,920 households, and 2,771 families residing in the township. The population density is 417.4/km² (1,081.0/mi²). There are 4,019 housing units at an average density of 166.3/km² (430.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 93.71% White, 0.45% African American, 0.06% Native American, 4.81% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 1.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,920 households out of which 34.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.4% are married couples living together, 5.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% are non-families. 26.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.11.
