Chamizal dispute
|
The Chamizal dispute was a conflict over the international border between Mexico and the United States as located between El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua along the Rio Grande. The river had shifted naturally since it was first surveyed in 1852, leaving the two countries in dispute as to the ownership of the surrounding land. The dispute has been resolved and parks (Chamizal National Memorial in El Paso; Parque Público Federal "El Chamizal" in Ciudad Juárez) have been established on both sides of the border on portions of the once disputed land.
