Cerrillos, New Mexico
|
Cerrillos ("the little hills" in Spanish) is a village in southern Santa Fe County, New Mexico. The name is from a group of hills nearby. The hills have at least three sets of names, in English, Spanish, and Keres.
Mining was an important part of the history of Cerrillos and now is a small part of the economy. Gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc were extracted in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and turquoise has been mined in the area for hundreds of years.
